Have you heard of scalenus syndrome?
Have you heard of scalenus syndrome? Neither had I, but it’s a syndrome that affects athletes - particularly rowers, wrestlers, javelin throwers, and those who participate in judo. The scalene muscles, the three muscles on each side of the neck that re responsible for bending and rotating the neck, become enlarged and compress, or press upon, the nerves and blood vessels.
The result of the compression is pain and weakness in the shoulders and arms, and difficulty with fine motor function of the hands and fingers.
Reuters Health has this article Surgery effective for athletes’ neck syndrome that reviews the latest treatment findings.
