According to a study published May 10 in the Journal of Complementary and Alternative Medicine. use of acupuncture or myofascial trigger therapy for chronic musculoskeletal pain provide similar results in many cases. People living with chronic pain often would like to find alternatives to medications so this could be a solution.![]()
Acupuncture is based on the theory that the body is full of energy, called qi. If the qi is disturbed or blocked, this results in pain, illness, or distress. By using acupuncture on specific areas, the qi is restored and the energy can flow once again.
Myofascial trigger-point therapy, which has been around since the mid-1800s, focuses on tender muscle or “trigger points” that are used for massage, electrical stimulation, or even injections.
