Enthusiastic exercise = post exercise pain?

by Marijke Durning, RN on May 14th, 2008

beachVolleyball_NCSummer is here and you’re getting the chance to get out and do all the fun things you love to do. Or, you’ve decided to join a gym and firm up those muscles. Whatever exercise you do and how you do it is up to you - but don’t let your enthusiasm be the deal breaker.

So many people who start new sports or activities end up injuring themselves to the point that they can’t continue or they become discouraged. Improper preparation or participation can lead you to a life of chronic pain, if you’re not careful. The thing is, you don’t have to quit or become discouraged if you take the proper steps to be prepared and if you don’t overdo it.

Here’s a good article from ABC News, Solutions for Post-Workout Pain. It’s from January, because of the New Year’s resolutions “thing,” but the information is good all year round.
