Overweight men need joint replacements the most often
It only goes to reason that people who are overweight are harder on their joints and a new study has pointed out that sex is also a factor.
Findings published in an online article in the Annals of Rheumatic Diseases, showed that women who were considered to be overweight had hip replacements at roughly the same rate as women who were not overweight. However, men who were obese were 70% more likely to have hip replacements over their non-obese counterparts.
Knee replacements had different findings. People of both sexes who were overweight had a higher incidence of knee replacements than their non-overweight counterparts, but men more so than women at a ratio of 5:4 for the men.
