July is Juvenile Arthritis Awareness Month

by Marijke Durning, RN on July 2nd, 2008

Man-Holding-Calendar_NC

bikehelmet_nc It can happen to any child, at any age: Juvenile Arthritis. It’s hard to imagine that a child can experience the same iStock_babyboylaughing kind of chronic pain and disability that we imagine is only for the elderly, but it’s true.

On the other hand, many with JRA (juvenile rheumatoid arthritis) are able to live full and meaningful lives, despite living with chronic pain. We have that example with Danielle, who wrote us a great post earlier this Comfort and Security year: Arthritis: Not just an “old person’s” disease.

The Arthritis Foundation and the JA Alliance have put together this informative fact sheet to help you learn more about the disease and how it affects children.

i know someone with juvenile arthritis and it would be very frustrating for the kid since that is the age where they are very physically active.
