Chronic burning pain in your mouth?

by Marijke Durning, RN on July 20th, 2008

Do you feel chronic, burning pain in your mouth?

If you’ve experienced some of these symptoms, you could have burning mouth syndrome:

  • burning sensation on your tongue, lips, gums, palate, throat or in your whole mouth
  • tingling or numbness in your mouth or on the tip of your tongue
  • Mouth pain that worsens as the day progresses
  • dry mouth
  • increased thirst
  • change or loss of taste

Most of us have burned our tongue or even the roof of our mouth at least once in our life, but imagine having that type of pain in your mouth all the time? It would affect everything you do, including eating and sleeping.

To read more about burning mouth syndrome, the MayoClinic.com has a good explanation about symptoms, causes, and treatment: Burning Mouth Syndrome.
