Help My Hurt

Tuesday travels around the channel

by Marijke Durning, RN on September 2nd, 2008

Hop aboard and read about what’s happening around the Health & Wellness channel here at b5media. Sometimes, we couldn’t be more different, but then there are times when a few of us find we’ve blogged about the same things. As I say in other posts like this - just because I don’t include all the blogs, that doesn’t mean they’re not interesting. Go check them out too!

Mark, over at A Dozen Steps, has a thought-provoking and sad story: A Child Is Not A Weapon! It’s so sad when the children get mixed up because of adult problems. Speaking of alcohol and kids, Grace over at Kids Health Notes has an informative post that parents of teens leaving for school should take note of: The one topic to discuss with college-bound teens. Back to school also means getting ready for school morning breakfasts. Ruth at Eating Fabulous can help with her post, Back to School and Better Breakfasts. But, if we’re talking about feeding a baby, you can head on over to Angela’s blog, Breastfeeding 123, where she has this informative post: Tips for Nursing a Newborn in Public.

Kendra, over at Diabetes Notes tells a great story about her daughter: “Mom- lets make sugar free cookies to sell at the cafeteria”- Makes my heart proud! Angelique at Breaking the Mirror addresses how back to school could cause problems for those who are battling food disorders: Back to School Doesn’t Have to Mean Back to Ana. A big issue that has surfaced is adequate screening for school athletes. Kendra’s other blog, A Hearty Life has a poll about just that: Poll- did your child have an EKG as part of their pre-sports physical?. And, staying with the child theme, Kristina at Autism Vox takes on the political issues that come along with autism in Obama and McCain on Autism.

Now, on the opposite end of the spectrum, over at Alzheimer’s Notes, we said good-bye to one blogger, Liz Lewis, but thankfully Mary Emma is still around to hold down the fort. Many caregivers of people with Alzheimer’s also have children at home, so this post, Back-to-School Tips for Caregivers & Kids, can be quite handy.

In the more serious department, Karen at Pink Ribbon Review has an interesting piece about a woman who decided not to reconstruct her nipples after a mastectomy, but rather to have tattoos: Reconstructed Nipples Vs. Tattoo Artistry. Hope, at Weighting Line, asks Are You Starving Yourself? And over at Womb Within, I address postpartum depression: “Speak Up When You’re Down

For some fun, Liz (still with Healthbolt) and Liberty post weekly contest round ups: Healthbolt’s Weekly Roundup of Contests and Giveaways. Kristen, over at Lively Women, doesn’t like the Olympics, so she held her Livelympics, which are now over, just as the Olympics are: Livelympics Closing Ceremonies. Alicia’s great blog, Mental Health Notes, is having a contest for a book that looks really interesting: Contest: Win A Copy Of Dr. David Clarke’s They Can’t Find Anything Wrong! Kelly, at Grounded Fitness, has a Homework Assignment for her readers - about how they get motivated to exercise when the desire just isn’t there. Scott at Health and Men discusses panty hose for the men among us: Man-tyhose: Manly Or NOT Manly?

Hey! I think I got all the blogs in this one! :-)

I hope these links help you discover new blogs around the channel.
